Ukraine Prohibits Use of Ukranian Hryvnia for Bitcoin and Other Digital Asset Purchases

The National Bank of Ukraine (NBU) has prohibited citizens from using the Ukranian currency, the Hryvnia (UAH), to purchase Bitcoin and other virtual assets. The NBU has also placed a limit on the amount of virtual assets which can be purchased using foreign currencies of 100,000 UAH.

The 100,000 UAH limit applies to “quasi-cash” which the NBU describes as including “the replenishment of e-wallets and brokerage or forex accounts, the cashing of traveler’s checks, purchases of virtual assets, and more.” https://bank.gov.ua/en/news/all/natsionalniy-bank-zaprovadjuye-dodatkovi-zahodi-dlya-zapobigannya-neproduktivnomu-vidtoku-kapitalu
