Central African Republic Adopts Bitcoin as Legal Tender

The Central African Republic (CAR) has become the second country to adopt Bitcoin as legal tender, following El Salvador’s adoption in September 2021.

CAR President Faustin Archange Touadera’s official presidential Facebook account announced that the bill was unanimously passed by the CAR National Assembly and was signed into law. https://www.facebook.com/PresidenceCentrafriqueOfficiel/posts/305888361698320

In addition to Bitcoin, the CAR will continue to use the Central African CFA franc (XAF), a regional currency that is also used by Cameroon, Chad, Congo, Equatorial Guinea, and Gabon.
