Nigeria to Launch Central Bank Digital Currency

On October 23, 2021, the Central Bank of NIgeria (CBN) announced that it plans to officially launch the eNaira Central Bank Digital Currency on Monday, October 25, 2021.

The CBN issued a press release which noted that the “launch of the eNaira is a culmination of several years of research work by the Central Bank of Nigeria in advancing the boundaries of payments system in order to make financial transactions easier and seamless for every strata of the society.”

Nigeria has partnered with Bitt Inc. of Barbados to assist in the development of the eNaira.
